Rockford police arrested 35-year-old Anthony Sarabia on charges that he hit a woman in the head with a plastic shovel and threw a pocketknife at her and her kids.
Around 1 p.m. on September 30, police were called to the 600 block of Garfield Avenue for a report of domestic abuse involving a woman and two children who were covered in blood. A woman and her three kids were in a car with Sarabia to drop off one of the kids at school at 8 a.m., according to court records.
Based on what the woman said, the others went to the boat dock at Bauer Park. The woman told the police that Sarabia hit her with a plastic shovel in the right ear.
She also told the cops that someone hit her in the face. Court records show that the suspect started to drive after the victim put the kids in the car.
The victim told the police On his way to the 600 block of Garfield Avenue, Sarabia threw a box cutter, a pocketknife, and a glass cologne bottle at different stops.
Sources say that when the suspect got there, he went to the garage where he keeps his guns.
Rockford Fire took the woman and her children to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Around 1:19 p.m., Sarabia was locked up. Five long guns, three handguns, a pocketknife, and a glass cologne bottle were found in the garage by the police.
Sarabia is accused of having a gun without a legal FOID, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, aggravated battery while using a deadly weapon, domestic battery causing bodily harm, aggravated domestic battery, and reckless conduct causing great bodily harm.
