San Jose, California — On January 7, a massive wildfire erupted in Los Angeles County, forcing thousands of people to flee their homes. Strong winds and dry conditions contributed to the rapid development of the fire.
Because of these conditions, firefighters struggle to slow and stop the fire. Many families were forced to evacuate their property, fearing that their homes would not be there when they returned or that they would be left with nothing.
The fire has left many people in Los Angeles distraught, and students at Silver Creek High School are likewise concerned.
“I think a wildfire is a tragedy, and it’s insane. “I would be devastated if I lost my home like the people in Los Angeles,” Nhi Chau, a student, said. Further empathizing with the feelings of sadness over the irreplaceable memories that can be produced without the houses that many people have converted into cozy homes.
Brooklee Tran, a junior at Silver Creek High, also expressed his thoughts on the wildfires.
“The wildfire is devastating for the many people who live in Los Angeles.” I believe they deserve all the assistance they can get, and our school’s Hope Hearted group is working hard to send goods to them. I’m grateful to have such compassionate folks in our neighborhood. “I would be devastated if I lost my home like the people in Los Angeles, and I hope they are safe,” Tran said.
Hope Hearted, a student-led nonprofit at Silver Creek High School, raises cash and distributes clothing, medical, and hygiene supplies to individuals in need, including victims of the Los Angeles wildfires, the homeless, and low-income residents in California. The Hope Hearted Club collects unused things through donation drives and hospital collaborations. In addition to kits, they provide fentanyl test strips in collaboration with the California Governor’s Naloxone Distribution Project.
Silver Creek’s Hope Hearted Club is working hard to collect donations for those affected by the fire. The calamity in Los Angeles demonstrates how unpredictable nature is and serves as a reminder to support those in our community.
