President-elect Donald Trump lost Minnesota overall, but he won in the home county of Democratic Vice Presidential Candidate Tim Walz, indicating a significant rightward shift in the state.
According to Axios, Trump did better in almost every county than he did in 2020. He did especially well in Sherburne. Minnesota has been seen as a stronghold for Democrats for a long time.
Notably, Trump barely won Blue Earth County. Vice President Harris was shocked to lose this county, which had been home to her running mate, Governor Tim Walz, for more than 20 years. In 2020, Biden won Blue Earth County by 4.4 points.
Kamala Harris, the Democratic running mate and Vice President, kept a strong hold on Minnesota’s seven-county metro area, but her margin was not as big as Biden’s was in 2020.
David Hann, Chair of the Minnesota GOP, told Axios, “The people of this state are being opened up to the overt partisanship and extreme policies of Democrats.”
