In the US, the December Social Security payment schedule for disabled retirees has been changed because of two holidays that will change how benefits are given.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and retiree group 4 recipients will see their payments moved up because of the national holidays that fall on the same days as the changes.
The first change is to the SSI payment, which usually comes out on the first of every month. This time, though, it will happen on November 29 instead of December 1, because that day is a holiday.
The fourth Wednesday of December, which is the 25th in 2024, is also a public holiday because it is Christmas. Because of this, payments for people in group 4 will be made earlier, on Tuesday, December 24th, instead of when they usually are.
If you are on SSI or in group 4, your payment dates will change. But if you are a disability retiree in groups 1, 2, or 3, you will still get your benefits on the same dates every month. Just to be clear, let us look at all of the exact payment days for each group of retirees.
Payment Days for Disability Retirees in December 2024
Here are the dates that each group of disability retirees will get their money in December:
- SSI: Friday November 29 (early payment due to the December 1 holiday).
- Group 1: Tuesday, December 3 (unchanged)
- Group 2: Wednesday 11 December (no change)
- Group 3: Wednesday 18 December (unchanged)
- Group 4: Tuesday 24 December (payment brought forward due to the holiday on 25 December)
These dates were chosen because payments had to be moved to work days so that benefits would not be late because of national holidays. The U.S. Government makes sure that disabled retirees get their money on time in this way, even if it falls on a holiday.
On the other hand, it is important to note that other types of retirees also get paid on this day.
On either of these days, people who get pensions for age or disability can get their money. Also, keep in mind that the SSA will send out the January 2025 SSI payment, which includes the COLA, on December 31, 2018.
Maximum Disability payments in 2024
For disabled retirees in the US, Social Security sets a maximum amount of money they can get each month. The most a disabled person can get in 2024 is $3,822.
This amount is only given to people who meet certain criteria, like having a high-income job for at least 35 years and waiting to apply for benefits until they were at least 65 years old.
The final amount each beneficiary gets is based on things like how much they have earned in the past and how old they were when they first started getting benefits.
Those who get this maximum amount can be more financially stable, but it is still a good idea to plan for monthly costs, especially during times when payments change.
People who get disability benefits from Social Security need to know about and be ready for any changes to the payment schedule.
Even though these changes are only temporary, they can have an effect on how you manage your money, especially in December, when holiday costs make things more expensive.
Retirees can plan their income and better manage their money if they know when their payments are due and how much they can get. This gives them peace of mind and financial stability all year long.
