A thief ruined a 9-year-old boy’s birthday, but the Villa Park Police Department (VPPD) stepped in to help.
Iker Ochoa was riding his brand-new bike to the local dollar store on Tuesday. His parents had given it to him as a birthday present for his ninth birthday.
“I put it somewhere, then went inside. When I came out, it was not there,” Ochoa said. “I really thought that my birthday was ruined and I was not going to get a bike.”
When Ochoa got home from the theft, he told his dad what had happened. His dad then called the cops.
“We looked everywhere for the bike, but it was clear we would not find it,” said Daniel Schultz of VPPD.
But VPPD quickly found a way to fix the problem. A few hours later, police officers showed up at Ochoa’s house with a new bike and a lock to keep it safe.
Thanks to the kindness of a few fathers on the force, Ochoa now has a smile on his face where there used to be a pout. He loves riding around in his brand-new, flashy car.
Schultz said, “We are all family guys.” “Everyone has kids.” We understand how important it is.
