The United States’ Social Security system sets up a payment schedule that is based on the date of birth of each beneficiary. However, different groups and rules decide when each transaction takes place, so not all retirees get their money at the same time.
We will talk about why some retirees will not get their money on time and what this means for them in this article.
People have talked about the Social Security payment on November 27, because not all retirees will be able to get it that day. People who retired between the 1st and 20th of every month will not be able to get this payment.
Because payments are organized based on the beneficiary’s date of birth, this kind of change in payment dates happens a lot in the Social Security system.
Retirees who do not get the November 27 payment
People who retire in the United States get their Social Security payments based on their group, and this schedule changes for each person based on their date of birth.
People who were born between January 1st and December 20th do not get paid on November 27 because they are not in group 4, which is the only group that does.
These groups will not get paid on November 27:
- Group 1: Retirees with a benefit prior to May 1997.
- Group 2: Retirees with a benefit after May 1997 with a date of birth between the 1st and 10th of any month.
- Group 3: Retirees with a benefit after May 1997 with a date of birth between the 11th and 20th of any month.
The November 27 payment is only for retirees in Group 4 who were born between the 21st and 31st of any month. It is important for people in groups 1, 2, and 3 to know about this change so that they can plan their finances around the new payment date.
November 29 payment for retirees in group 4
People who were born between January 1 and November 20 will not get their payment on November 27, but they can still get it on November 29.
The December payment will be sent early to November 29 because December 1st falls on a weekend. This is the SSI payment.
With SSI payments made early in November, recipients in all groups will get their money, even if the first day of December falls on a holiday.
It is also common for Social Security to change payment dates in this way. This makes sure that retirees get their benefits on business days.
As a result, some retirees may get two different payments in the last week of November.
However, some may have already received one of their monthly Social Security payments and will only be able to access a payment on the 29th, which is actually an advance of the check they will receive on November 1st.
