A man from North Carolina won the lottery after many years of adamantly claiming he would.
A news release from the NC Education Lottery says that Thomas Harris of Lexington recently won $4 million from a $30 Supreme 7s scratch-off ticket that he bought at Tommy’s Mini Mart on West Center Street in Mebane.
For the man from Davidson County, the big win was a dream come true. He was sure it would happen at some point.
“I always said, ‘One day I am going to get that $4 million,'” said he.
Harris is lucky that time is now, but even he had trouble believing he had finally won the prize.
“I kept wondering if it was real,” he told people at the draw. “I had to go back and ask the owner to scan it for me.”
At lottery headquarters on Monday (October 14), Harris collected his prize. He could have received his money as an annuity of $200,000 over 20 years, or he could have received it all at once in the amount of $2.4 million. The lucky person chose the second option and was able to take home an amazing $1,716,009 after all state and federal taxes were taken out.
The lottery told Harris that he was going to fix up his car, invest the money, and pay his bills with it.
The lottery website says that the Supreme 7s game began in July with 10 prizes worth $100,000 each and four winners worth $4 million each. After Harris’s win, two of the top prizes and eight of the $100,000 prizes are still up for grabs.
