According to posts on the former and incoming president’s social media accounts, some of Donald Trump’s supporters are outraged by his most recent Navy decision.
Late Tuesday, Trump used his Truth Social to announce several new picks, including Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, who has been named director of the National Institutes of Health.
That decision was harshly criticized, with one journalist calling his appointment a “remarkable turn” — given that he was a “pariah four years ago, dismissed by the then-NIH director for his ‘fringe’ views.”
Trump also named John Phelan, co-founder and chairman of Rugger Management LLC, a private investment firm based in Palm Beach, Florida, to be the United States Secretary of the Navy.
“His Record of Success speaks for itself – a true Champion of American Enterprise and Ingenuity!” In his letter, Trump said, “John’s intelligence and leadership are unmatched.”
For some Trump fans, that choice did not go over well.
An account named @WriterJanine, who posts pro-Trump content and backed former GOP lawmaker Matt Gaetz for Attorney General, said, “This is a strange choice, unless he is going to be a businessman breaking down supply chain bottlenecks.”
“Never been in the military? That person also said, “It seems like you are rewarding a friend or donor, so I will need a better explanation.”
Someone else, @Xjhawkr, posts pro-Trump content and calls himself a “Navy Vet” and a “Constitutional Conservative Patriot.” “A c— pick!” that person wrote.
Because I was in the U.S. Navy, I want a sailor to be in charge!! “Not some Wall Street billionaire with NO experience in the military!!” they said. “You got this wrong DJT!!!”
@kprett, who posts Trump-supporting memes on Truth Social, asked, “Why?”
“This guy has never been in the military,” the user said.
She shares Trump’s posts and content that supports Fox News. @DonnaSwimminUpstream said, “I did not read any NAVY service or experience.”
A Trump supporter who went by the name @KelceyB said, “DELL???” “YOU ARE LETTING TRAITORS TAKE OVER THE NAVY!”
“EVERY PICK YOU KEEP MAKING IS DOOMING OUR NATION & GOD IS P—–!” the user said. “YOU DECEIVED MILLIONS OF US, GOD’S CHILDREN OUT OF OUR VOTE & YOUR DECEIT CURSES THIS NATION!”
